LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Mechanix came out in February 1982 and reached No. 8 on the UK albums chart. It was the first studio album to which Neil Carter, the multi-instrumentalist who had played in Wild Horses, contributed in full, on guitars, keyboards and saxophones, alongside Phil Mogg, Andy Parker, Paul Chapman and Pete Way. Recording began at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland, and was finished at The Manor in Oxfordshire, and the album includes a cover of Eddie Cochran's "Somethin' Else".
The newest title in Chrysalis's UFO reissue series, this deluxe edition comes as a two-CD digipak and as a 180-gram three-LP set in a tri-fold sleeve, with a release date of 4 December 2026. AIR Mastering remastered the album from the original tape transfers, and the first CD follows the ten album tracks with "Heel of a Stranger", the B-side of the single "Let It Rain", and the single edit of "Back Into My Life"; those two are not on the vinyl. Michael Hann wrote new liner notes from fresh interviews with Mogg, Parker and Carter, and they come with previously unseen photographs from the time.
The second CD, the second and third LPs on vinyl, is eleven songs from the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 28 January 1982, shortly before the album's release. Producer Brian Kehew restored the recording and it has been newly mixed; Chrysalis calls the mix previously unreleased, though the concert itself had already appeared on the Official Bootleg Box Set 1975-1982 in 2009 and on UFO at the BBC: On Air 1974-1985 in 2013. It opens with the new "We Belong to the Night" and "Let It Rain", runs through "Long Gone", "The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent" and "Makin' Moves" from the previous album, then "Only You Can Rock Me", "No Place to Run", "Love to Love", "Doing It All for You" and "Too Hot to Handle", and ends with "Mystery Train".
