LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Lights Out Chicago 1980 is UFO's 1980 show in Chicago, complete in twelve songs. Cleopatra Records' box set Live Sightings dates this "Chicago 1980" recording to 16 March 1980 at the International Amphitheater. Michael Schenker had gone and Paul Chapman was now the guitarist: No Place to Run, produced by George Martin at AIR Studios in Montserrat and released that year, was the first album with Chapman. For its shows of this period the box names founding members Phil Mogg, Pete Way and Andy Parker alongside Chapman. The concert opens with three songs from the new album, "Lettin' Go", "Young Blood" and "No Place to Run". "Cherry" and "Only You Can Rock Me" from Obsession follow, then "Love to Love" from Lights Out and a fourth new song, "Mystery Train". The second half lines up the standards, "Doctor Doctor", "Too Hot to Handle", "Lights Out" and "Rock Bottom", and Force It's "Shoot Shoot" closes the night. Four of the twelve songs come from the album the band were touring. The show first came out shortened. The first disc of Live Sightings and Cleopatra's 2016 LP Lights Out Chicago both carry nine songs, without "Doctor Doctor", "Rock Bottom" and "Shoot Shoot", and the LP was pressed again in November 2023 as a coloured edition limited to 300 copies. The box also holds the band at the same venue on 13 March 1981, in St. Louis on 14 March 1982 and in Cleveland on 9 June 1982. In December 2023 Cleopatra issued the CD Lights Out Chicago 1980 with all twelve songs, presenting it as the complete Chicago show; an LP followed the same month, and in Japan an edition for domestic distribution with an obi strip (CLO4606CDJ) came out in July 2026.
