Liner Notes

Treat is Treat's early-1990s final chapter, on which, with a lineup featuring Mats Levén, they crossed hard riffs with melody. Original vocalist Robert Ernlund departed, and Mats Levén — later known for Candlemass and others — took over the singing. Reflecting the mood of the era when grunge rose, it shifted to a heavier, tougher style than before. Joey Balin co-wrote the lyrics, and the songs carry a texture different from the earlier Treat. In later years it has been reappraised as an underrated album for its quality. Powerful songs like "Watch Your Tongue," "Blood Sweat and Love" and "Learn to Fly" line up. Levén's soaring, powerful voice brought a new expression to the band. But amid the changing times, the album failed to achieve commercial success, and the band ceased activity in 1993. An ambitious yet unrewarded record, placed just before a long hiatus. After this breakup, it would be twelve years, in 2006, before Ernlund returned to the band. Even so, it is remembered as a singular record in their history, one that captured Levén's voice.
