LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Singer Johan Edlund was unhappy with the previous album, Clouds, and has said it did not turn out the way he wanted. After the 1994 tour EP The Sleeping Beauty (Live in Israel) he dismissed every member of the band except John Hagel.
The two of them made this record with session players Magnus Sahlgren and Lars Sköld, and Waldemar Sorychta, who played keyboards and produced. It was taped at Woodhouse Studio. Edlund has since said that this is where he finally did what he had wanted to do on Clouds. The birdsong on the album came from a sound-effects record he owned.
The death metal recedes and what replaces it is psychedelic and progressive in texture. Looking back, Edlund described himself as a very young man who wanted to sound like his favourite band, Pink Floyd. The subjects are the pentagram ("The Ar"), nature ("Gaia"), LSD ("A Pocket Size Sun") and satanism ("Visionaire"). Videos were made for "Whatever That Hurts" and "Gaia". It was among Century Media's best-selling records at the time. The running order here is the original's as printed.
