Dreams on Toast

Dreams on Toast, the eighth album, came out on Cooking Vinyl on 28 March 2025 (COOKCD922), with Big Nothing / Ultra-Vybe's Japanese edition released worldwide the same day (OTCD-6881) and adding a demo of "Rock And Roll Party Cowboy". It was announced on 18 September 2024 with the first single, "The Longest Kiss". Dan Hawkins produced it at his own Hawkland Studios in Sussex (Premier Guitar); he spent a year on it, and reckons the band wrote around 150 songs for it (Classic Rock). The verses of "The Longest Kiss" come from a song Justin Hawkins has been working on for decades for an unfinished musical, The Collapse Of The Lowestoft Fishing Industry, and the lyric came to him one morning in Nairn in the Scottish Highlands (official site). The closing ballad "Weekend In Rome" has a spoken part by the actor Stephen Dorff. "Walking Through Fire" turns a joke of Dan's into a lyric: the band never stopped making hit albums, it is just that nobody buys them any more (Classic Rock). The video for "I Hate Myself" was directed by Simon Emmett and shot in a single unedited take, and premiered on Justin's YouTube channel, Justin Hawkins Rides Again (official site). The album entered the UK chart at number two, the band's highest placing since Permission to Land, and went to number one on the Independent, Rock & Metal, Vinyl and Downloads albums charts (official site; Official Charts). The running order here is the original's as printed.
