Liner Notes

Twilight in Olympus is Symphony X's fourth album, on which they tied technical playing to grand construction to deepen their progressive metal world. Carrying over the previous The Divine Wings of Tragedy's direction while trying new ideas on some songs, it steps toward broader expression. It is the album on which drummer Thomas Walling filled in for the temporarily departed Jason Rullo, and the last with longtime bassist Thomas Miller. The unfinished material intended as the title track was later folded into the closing song of the following album, V. From the classical opening of "Smoke and Mirrors" to the 13-minute suite "Through the Looking Glass" and the beautiful closer "Lady of the Snow," varied songs line up. On "In the Dragon's Den," Russell Allen delivers some of his finest singing. Despite the unusual structure of having no title track, it is an accomplished record where tight ensemble and Romeo's fast playing shine. The album was recorded at Trax East and The Dungeon.
