LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
The band was formed in early 2000 by Juha Raivio and soon joined by Pasi Pasanen; the two had played together in Plutonium Orange. Of the songs they first put together, "Through Her Silvery Body" ended up on the demo Out of This Gloomy Light and opens this album.
In 2001 Markus Jamsen joined as second guitarist and Mikko Kotamaki of Funeris Nocturnum as singer, and Aleksi Munter on keyboards and Matti Honkonen on bass came from the same band. From the spring of 2002 they arranged the demo material, recording it in January 2003 at Sam's Workshop with Sami Kokko, who also mixed it.
A deal with Firebox Records followed a few months after those recordings, and the band went into the studio at the end of July 2003 and made this album over the next three weeks. The band's name comes from the long Finnish winters, when the sun is blocked out for months, and from the Nordic myths about creatures swallowing the sun out of the sky — which in those stories means the end of the world. The running order here is the original's as printed.
