Pierced from Within

The previous album, Breeding the Spawn, was heavily criticised, above all for how roughly it had been recorded and mixed. The band intended to go back to Morrisound and work with Scott Burns again, but Roadrunner would not pay for the studio time and they had to record elsewhere. What came out is plainly better sounding than the record before it. The bass in particular is louder, filling in what had been called thin. It is fast, closely worked and heavy. The songs are not built to be grasped whole on one hearing; they have been described as revealing more of themselves each time. At forty-five minutes and thirty-one seconds it was the band's longest album to that point. "Synthetically Revived" is a re-recording of a song from the Human Waste EP, and "Breeding the Spawn" a re-recording of the previous album's title track. It is the last record with guitarist Doug Cerrito and bassist Chris Richards, and the only one with drummer Doug Bohn. Loudwire has named it the greatest album in brutal death metal. The running order here is the original's as printed.
