Effigy of the Forgotten

This is the first full-length record by a band from Long Island, New York. It was taped in June 1991 at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida, over a week and on a budget of $5,000, with Scott Burns producing. Several of the songs are re-recordings of material already issued on the Reincremation demo and the Human Waste EP. Guitarist Terrance Hobbs has described the writing as nothing more than a group of kids in a basement bringing riffs to each other and playing for hours. The guitars are tuned down to C standard, and the record is built on fast palm-muted figures, tremolo picking and solos, over drumming packed with blast beats and quick fills. The way the riffs are assembled has often been called mathematical. Monstrosity were recording their own debut in the same studio at the same time, and their singer George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher guests on "Mass Obliteration". The sleeve painting is by Dan Seagrave. The album is dedicated to Roger Patterson, the Atheist bassist who died in a road accident earlier that year. The running order here is the original's as printed.
