Stone Sour is the debut album by Stone Sour, from Des Moines, Iowa, released after the band restarted following a hiatus. Centered on Corey Taylor (vocals) and Jim Root (guitar) — who also play in Slipknot — it was made with Josh Rand (guitar), Shawn Economaki (bass) and Joel Ekman (drums). Unlike Slipknot's extremity, it foregrounds Taylor's singing around melodic hard rock and alternative metal. Tom Tatman produced.
"Get Inside" served as the band's calling card with its racing riff and chorus, and was nominated for a Grammy. The ballad "Bother," used on the soundtrack of the film Spider-Man, became a big hit that showcased Taylor's expressiveness. Songs moving between aggression and lyricism line up, like "Inhale" and "Orchids." The album earned gold certification and vividly showed a side of Taylor different from Slipknot. Balancing songcraft with rock's power, it is a firm starting point.
