Eternal Blue

Eternal Blue is the debut studio album by the Canadian band Spiritbox, released on 17 September 2021. Their own Pale Chord Records put it out in partnership with Rise Records. Vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer formed Spiritbox in 2016 after leaving Iwrestledabearonce. They revealed the project and released an EP in 2017 and began work on this album in 2018, recording several other singles in the meantime that were collected as a second EP in 2019. The first full-length was scheduled for April 2020, but development and promotion were halted by the pandemic. After releasing "Holy Roller" and "Constance" as singles in the latter half of 2020, the band moved to Joshua Tree, California, early in 2021 and finished the writing there. Stringer produced it with former Volumes guitarist Daniel Braunstein, who completed the recording in early March 2021. The music takes in several strands of heavy metal along with electronic elements, and LaPlante uses both screamed and clean vocals; the influences named for it include Slipknot, Deftones, Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears. Three more songs went out as singles between the end of recording and the release. Sam Carter of Architects guests on "Yellowjacket".
