Ultramega OK

Ultramega OK, the debut album, came out on SST on 31 October 1988 as SST CD 201, the only album the band made for the label. Drew Canulette produced it with the band, recording in the spring of 1988 with the Dogfish mobile unit in Seattle and in Newberg, Oregon. The line-up was Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Hiro Yamamoto and Matt Cameron. According to the band's own site, "Flower" was the only single, and it uses the sound of Thayil blowing across his guitar strings; "Circle of Power" is the only Soundgarden song with Yamamoto singing lead. "Smokestack Lightning" is Howlin' Wolf's song, and the closing "One Minute of Silence" is credited to John Lennon. It did not chart, but it was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 32nd Grammy Awards. In Japan it first appeared on King Records on 16 March 1994 (KKCP-10). Sub Pop issued an expanded edition on 10 March 2017, remixed by Jack Endino and adding six early recordings; the running order and the player here follow the 1988 original.
