A Predator's Portrait

A Predator's Portrait is a work on which SOILWORK added more modern rhythm and catchy choruses to the aggression of melodic death metal. Fast riffs and a bouncing beat push the songs hard forward. On this record clean vocals are introduced in earnest, and an element that would become a major feature of the band clearly appears. On “Bastard Chain,” “Needlefeast,” “The Analyst” and “Final Fatal Force,” the sound is extreme yet the melodic outline is clear, so the songs stay strongly in the memory. Songs like “Structure Divine” and “Shadowchild” breathe a new side of the band too. Boldly binding roughness and catchiness, it is an important turning point that put forth a distinct modernity even among the Swedish acts.
