Sodom

The album Sodom carries nothing but the band's name as its title. Steamhammer (SPV) released it in Germany on 21 April 2006, in the rest of Europe on 24 April and in the United States on 9 May. Tom Angelripper, Bernemann and Bobby Schottkowski recorded it as a trio, and Angelripper noted at the time that the three of them had been together for ten years. It was the band's first new studio recording after its first DVD, Lords of Depravity Part I. The producer of the album Sodom was Andy Brings, who had once played guitar in the band. He recorded and mixed it at his Midas Twins studio in Hagen together with the engineer Haan Hartmann. The booklet also names House of Music Studio in Winterbach as a recording location, with Achim Köhler among the engineers. Eroc, the drummer of the German rock band Grobschnitt, mastered it. Angelripper said the album showed that a band did not need to go to an American studio to get a good sound. The cover artwork is by Vitali Geyer and Conny Kittscher. On the album, "Axis of Evil" takes its title from a phrase of the US president George W. Bush. Angelripper said he had always written about the injustice and the mistakes he saw in the world, and that while he could not change anything politically, he wanted to make his own position clear. "Lords of Depravity" and "Nothing to Regret" had already been played live on the band's latest US tour before the release; after finishing the recording, the trio had toured the United States with Finntroll in January 2006. The album Sodom spent one week on the German chart, at number 64. The Japanese edition came out on 26 April 2006 with a bonus track, "Kamikaze Terrorizer", for twelve tracks.
