Liner Notes
The Wild Life is the second album, on which Slaughter kept its clear choruses and flashy hard-rock feel while stepping into more varied material than before. Released on Chrysalis in 1992 and recorded at Red Zone Studios among others, it debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and went gold. The cover was designed by John Kosh and the mastering handled by Bob Ludwig. Mark Slaughter’s singing soars, Tim Kelly’s guitar supports both drive and lyricism, and Dana Strum and Blas Elias lock down the rhythm.
The title track “The Wild Life,” “Days Gone By” and “Real Love” became hits, alongside big developments like the seven-minute “Times They Change,” the dramatic opening of “Reach for the Sky,” and the heavier “Do Ya Know.” Across a run past sixty minutes, placing calmer songs between the catchy ones gives the album a natural breath. All written by Slaughter and Strum, the playing widens a notch on the debut. A full record that expanded the band’s range without losing melodic fun.
