Liner Notes

Origins is the fourth album, layering Brazilian metal's passion, symphonic color and emotive melody. Released on Italy's Scarlet Records in 2010, with the same lineup as the previous record: Thiago Bianchi, Léo Mancini, Fernando Quesada and Ricardo Confessori. It's a concept album tracing a Siberian boy through his tribe's hardships until he becomes a spiritual guide for his people. In this period Confessori had also returned to Angra, working in both bands at once. Beyond the heat of the racing songs, the wistfulness shown in mid-tempos and ballads gives the album rich undulation. It runs straight from “Origins (The Day I Died)” into “Lethal Awakening,” the two-part “Ego” advances the story, the piano ballad “Rising Up to Life” and “Blind Messiah” create shadow, and the closing “S.S.D.” leaves a quiet afterglow. The special edition also includes a cover of X Japan's “Kurenai.” Widely rated as their most satisfying since the debut — a record for savoring melodic metal drama that moves between speed and lyricism.
