Madness Reigns From The Gutter (1990)

Madness Reigns From The Gutter (1990) is Savatage's concert at the Palace in Los Angeles on 29 June 1990. earMUSIC released it in Europe on 26 June 2026 on two CDs and three LPs, with the digital edition the same day, and the American release followed on 18 September. King Records' Japanese edition is a two-CD set, KICP-4126/7, dated 28 October 2026, with the same tracks in the same order. The date of the show comes from the band's own 1990 tour history, which lists this night's set as the same nineteen songs in the same order. The Rulin' Gutter tour, which followed the 1989 album Gutter Ballet, took in more than a hundred shows across Europe and North America. On stage were Jon Oliva (vocals, keyboards), Criss Oliva (guitar), Chris Caffery (guitar, keyboards), Johnny Lee Middleton (bass) and Steve "Doc" Wacholz (drums). According to the band and the label, the original master tapes were restored and the whole set mixed and mastered again. Jon has called that tour the peak of the band's live shows, six months in which madness reigned in the gutter. Middleton said he had no idea a complete multitrack recording existed, believing the mobile truck had only mixed a radio broadcast, as BraveWords reported. The set runs nineteen songs, from "City Beneath The Surface" to "Devastation". The day before the release a video for "Gutter Ballet (Live 1990)" appeared, cut together from tour footage, memorabilia and parts of the song's original video. The album reached number 14 in Germany. As of 5 October 2026 only one of its nineteen tracks will play on Spotify in this territory, so this page shows the sleeve instead of a player. The running order here is the original's as printed.
