2.1 A Fateful Encounter and the Formation of Thundercross

In 1993, in the northeastern Italian port city of Trieste, Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli, who were then in their late teens and early twenties, crossed paths. Sharing a deep knowledge of classical music and a passion for heavy metal, the two instantly hit it off and formed a band. The band was initially named Thundercross.

This demo was distributed in cassette tape format and caught the attention of Limb Schnoor, the owner of the German label Limb Music Products.

2.3 Demo Tape "Eternal Glory" and Renaming to Rhapsody (1995)

Upon receiving an offer from Limb Music, the band produced their second demo tape, "Eternal Glory," in 1995 with higher production values. At this juncture, the band changed its name from Thundercross to Rhapsody, a name with a more musical and dramatic resonance.

Shortly after the completion of this demo, due to differences in musical direction and internal circumstances, vocalist Cristiano Adacher and bassist Andrea Furlan departed from the band. Rhapsody faced a crisis, losing both their frontman and bassist just before recording their debut album.

Chapter 3: The Emerald Sword Saga - The Arrival of the Golden Age (1997-2002)

3.1 Fabio Lione Joins the Band

In preparation for their debut album, Rhapsody searched for a new vocalist. The choice fell upon Fabio Lione, who was active in bands like Labyrinth and Athena at the time under the stage name "Joe Terry." • Story Overview (Part 1): The peace of the magical land of Algalord is threatened by the dark lord Akron. To counter Akron's forces, the legendary hero, the "Warrior of Ice," sets out on a quest to find the legendary sacred Emerald Sword. He journeys across the ruins of Ancelot and through the valley of death in Irengard.

• Story Overview (Part 5 - Conclusion): The final showdown between the Warrior of Ice and Akron. Akron attempts to gain invincible power, but the former enemy general Dargor realizes his mistakes and defects to the side of the Warrior of Ice. Following a horrific battle, the Warrior of Ice sacrifices his own life to save the world. An emotional finale depicting the death of a hero and the rebirth of the world.

• Power of the Dragonflame: The title track featuring an explosive burst of energy in its chorus.
• Gargoyles, Angels of Darkness: A long-form piece lasting 19 minutes. It has an opera-like structure that musically expresses the conclusion of the story.

Chapter 4: The Dark Secret Saga and Renaming to "Of Fire" (2004-2011)

4.1 A New Saga and the Recruitment of Christopher Lee

Following the conclusion of the Emerald Sword Saga, the band went through a two-year hiatus before launching a new storyline, "The Dark Secret Saga," in 2004. The biggest highlight of this new chapter was recruiting legendary actor Sir Christopher Lee—famous for roles such as Saruman in "The Lord of the Rings" and Count Dooku in "Star Wars"—as the narrator (The Wizard King). Additionally, the band transferred their management to Magic Circle Music, led by Joey DeMaio of Manowar.

4.2 5th Album: "Symphony of Enchanted Lands II: The Dark Secret" (2004)

The first album of the new saga. Utilizing a 70-piece orchestra and choir, the cinematic score approach was elevated to its absolute peak.

• Story Overview (Part 1): A few years after the Emerald Sword Saga. In a world that was supposed to have regained peace, the prophecy of the resurrection of a new threat, "Nekron," casts a dark shadow. To prevent this, sages must find the "Seven Black Books." Dargor, who redeemed himself in the previous installment, appears as a central character.

On July 14, 2006, the band suddenly announced a name change. The reason was a trademark issue. At the time, another band named Rhapsody existed in the United States, and the music streaming service "Rhapsody" operated by RealNetworks was rising to prominence, creating trademark conflicts.

The new band name became "RHAPSODY OF FIRE." While the band explained it as a positive change representing "passion like a dragon's flame," it can be inferred that altering a long-cherished logo and name was a bittersweet decision driven by legal pressure.

4.4 6th Album: "Triumph or Agony" (2006)

The first album under the new name. It was more mid-tempo than its predecessor, featuring a large number of narration and dialogue parts, highlighting its aspect as a "film to listen to."

After the release of "Triumph or Agony," the band fell into a state where they could not release new work for several years due to contractual troubles with Magic Circle Music. During this period, Luca Turilli engaged in solo activities, among other projects.

Chapter 5: The Great Split - Splitting into Two Rhapsodys (2011-2016)

5.1 The Friendly Split

In August 2011, RHAPSODY OF FIRE announced on their official website that co-founders Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli were parting ways. It was emphasized that this was not a legal dispute, but rather a "Friendly Split" due to differing musical visions.
