Liner Notes

Perfect Man adds more organized melody and structure to RAGE’s speed-metal edge. Built around Peavy Wagner’s hard-edged voice and bass, guitars and drums drive the songs with high tension. Under a new lineup, the band’s sound became noticeably tighter here. Even in speeders like “Wasteland” and “Animal Instinct,” the riffs are never monotonous, and shadowed phrases give the album depth. The title track “Perfect Man” and “Don’t Fear the Winter” balance clear melodic outlines with dramatic development, creating substance beyond mere aggression. Speed and construction, rawness and melancholy share the same space, and the character that would carry directly into later RAGE comes clearly into view. The tension and melodic beauty in songs such as “Sinister Thinking” and “A Pilgrim’s Path” should not be missed — a culmination of the early years that laid the groundwork for the leaps to come.
