The Verdict
The Verdict condenses Queensrÿche’s hard-metal drive and progressive-rock shading into a notably focused set of songs.

Liner Notes
The Verdict is the fourteenth album, on which Queensrÿche concentrated the hard drive of heavy metal and the complex shading of progressive rock into a tight set of songs. It was made with Todd La Torre (vocals), Michael Wilton and Parker Lundgren (guitar) and Eddie Jackson (bass). Because drummer Scott Rockenfield had entered a period of rest, La Torre plays drums in addition to vocals here.
On "Blood of the Levant" and "Man the Machine," sharp guitar riffs, high-tension drums and La Torre's powerful high notes give a dense outline. Even on riff-led songs, the harmony and rhythm have fine twists, so new connections appear no matter how many times you listen. Yet the choruses are clear, and complexity does not undermine the power of the singing. A record that unearthed the core of Queensrÿche neatly and powerfully, leaning to neither technique nor emotion.
