Change is a work on which PINK CREAM 69, after David Readman joined, took in harder guitar and a 1990s shadow. In place of Andi Deris — who moved to Helloween — Readman’s expressive voice, newly at the microphone, brings the band a fresh breath. The band’s melodic qualities remain, while the texture of the vocals points in a new direction.
On “Funny Words,” “Light Of Day,” “Change” and “Something I Said,” the songs do not lose their hooks, gaining a different outline through the weight of the riffs. A cover of Marc Bolan’s T. Rex song “20th Century Boy” shows respect for the band’s roots too. Songs like “Yesterdays” and “Queen Bee” breathe a fullness particular to the new lineup too. As the title says, turning the vocalist change into a positive creative change, it is a record that vividly announces the start of a new chapter.
