LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Shades of God is the first album Paradise Lost made after leaving Peaceville Records for Music for Nations, released on 14 July 1992 as CDMFN 135; Music for Nations went on to issue four studio albums in a row, through One Second in 1997. The line-up is the same five as on the first two records, with Sarah Marrion back as a guest vocalist and Robert John Godfrey on keyboards, and the cover design and illustration are by Dave McKean.
The closing track, "As I Die", was also released on its own, and the band's site lists the single among their releases. Marquee, which later issued their records in Japan, writes in its artist profile that something of the band to come can already be heard on the debut, on Gothic and on this album.
The Japanese edition followed on 19 March 1993 as PCCY-00420, with "Rape of Virtue", "Death Walks Behind You" and a live "Eternal" added for twelve tracks. The track list here is the original nine, and the player on this page carries the same nine.
