Mestarin kynsi is the fifth album by the Finnish band Oranssi Pazuzu, released on 17 April 2020 through Nuclear Blast.
The band formed in 2007 around vocalist and guitarist Juho "Jun-His" Vanhanen, drummer Jarkko "Korjak" Salo, guitarist Moit, keyboard and percussion player Ville "Evil" Leppilahti and bassist Toni "Ontto" Hietamaki. Moit left in 2016 and was replaced by Niko "Ikon" Lehdontie of Kairon; IRSE!. The name joins oranssi, Finnish for the colour orange, to Pazuzu, a wind demon from Babylonian mythology.
Their first album, Muukalainen puhuu, was recorded in Korjak's family cabin in 2008 and released by Violent Journey Records in 2009, followed by a split LP with Candy Cane in 2010, Kosmonument on Spinefarm in 2011 and Valonielu on Svart in 2013, which the London-based producer Jaime Gomez Arellano produced and engineered. Varahtelija of 2016 drew good reviews from AllMusic, Pitchfork and Spin, and a two-track EP, Kevat / Varimyrsky, followed in 2017. This is the record after it: six songs used as one continuous stretch of about forty minutes, under a title that means the master's claw. Two members also play in Atomikyla with two of Dark Buddha Rising, and the band belongs to the Wastement collective.
