Liner Notes
Curb is a work that, rather than the large-scale rock image of later years, lets you hear NICKELBACK’s starting point with a rough, close sound image. Heavy guitar, shadowed melody and earnest vocals honestly breathe in the air of post-grunge. It is the debut that the band from Alberta, Canada, put out to the world through self-production.
On “Little Friend,” “Pusher” and “Curb,” including the not-fully-polished parts, there is a heat that writes, plays and tries to move forward. Chad Kroeger’s rough voice already determines the band’s individuality at this point. Songs like “Fly” and “Where?” breathe an early, rough appeal too. It is a precious origin that strongly conveys the influence of 1990s grunge. It is an important early work for knowing the outline of the band that existed before its great success.
