1. "As many stories as there are fragments" — what the project is
METALVERSE is a three-member multiverse project operated by the Japanese agency Amuse. Calling itself a project rather than a band or a group is a definition and not a pose. The oldest surviving announcement on its own website, dated 7 July 2023, puts it this way: as many stories exist as there are fragments of METALVERSE, the cast and the content are in constant flux, and the thing is a multi-dimensional multiverse project that takes more than one single form. Those fragments have a name of their own — ELEMENT — which is also what the project's own merchandise is called.
METALVERSE is therefore a vessel built to have its personnel and its contents change. Read that way, the later arrival of METALVERSE VΛND PROJECT, whose band line-up is different at every show, and the one night the group stood on stage as five rather than three, are both inside the design rather than departures from it.
Even the reading of the name is unsettled between official sources. Amuse's current artist page prints it with a "vu" sound, as Metaruvasu; the Japanese music paper Natalie prints it with a plain "ba", as Metarubasu, and so did Amuse's own 2023 press release. The band's website states no reading anywhere. This site follows the newest of them, the agency's current page.
2. Three figures at a BABYMETAL concert (2023)
The first appearance was not at a show of their own. In January 2023, at BABYMETAL's headline concert BABYMETAL RETURNS - THE OTHER ONE - at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall, three figures closely resembling BABYMETAL showed themselves in the hall. Natalie's report of the opening night records them arriving on the second, circular stage during "Doki Doki Morning".
The same three returned that April at BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE - at Pia Arena MM, performing "KARATE" alongside BABYMETAL on both nights. It was at those shows that BABYMETAL announced it was moving from METAL RESISTANCE, the campaign it had run for years, into a new world called METALVERSE.
Seen from METALVERSE's own side, neither of those was its concert. Its official news archive, paged to the end, holds nothing older than 7 July 2023: no formation date, no founding announcement, no member reveal. The earliest datable first-party trace of the project is its X account, open since March 2023. That is why this site gives the founding year as 2023 and says nothing finer.
3. A debut with no songs and no names (August 2023)
On 7 July 2023 Amuse and the METALVERSE website published the first announcement, and it carried two dates: Sunday 20 August at SUMMER SONIC 2023 in Tokyo, and 24 and 25 August at Spotify O-EAST for the project's first solo event, METALVERSE#1 - UNBOXING.
Summer Sonic was the opening act of the MOUNTAIN STAGE. Not one song had been released and not one member had been named. The room, which holds around twenty thousand, filled anyway for a first-thing-in-the-morning slot, and the biography Amuse still supplies to festivals calls that day both the project's first appearance and its debut stage. Both O-EAST nights the following week sold out; the venue's own schedule page still shows SOLD OUT against the 7,000 yen pre-sale and the 8,000 yen official sale alike.
A December 2023 booking at Makuhari Messe for X-CON 2023 - X-Dimension was announced and then lost: the festival was cancelled in its entirety, so that appearance never happened.
4. One night as five, then fourteen months of silence (2024–2025)
On 10 and 11 February 2024 the second headline show, METALVERSE #2 - THE END OF THE INNOCENCE, took place at Toyosu PIT. METALVERSE performed it as five, not three. Five crystal ELEMENT objects descended onto the stage and a story sequence showed a sixth being born from the combination of the 3DCG members. The set was the same on both nights: "Welcome to the METALVERSE", "Crazy J", "Si Si", "Get Down", "Qn", "GIZA", "Endless World", "Naked Princess", "KIRA☆", and "Crazy J" again to close. Still no recordings existed, and still nobody had been named. As the second night ended, the screen showed only the title of the next show: METALVERSE #3 - GARDEN OF EDEN.
Two live music videos were cut from that footage — "Crazy J" in February 2024 and "Naked Princess" that March. For more than two years afterwards, those two uploads were the only METALVERSE recordings that existed anywhere.
On 25 and 26 May 2024 the group played FOX_FEST, BABYMETAL's own festival at Saitama Super Arena, one of five acts alongside BABYMETAL, Electric Callboy, Polyphia and Bilmuri, with the teenage instrumental metal trio ASTERISM as guest band. The two days drew around thirty thousand people.
Then the record of live activity stops for roughly fourteen months. The official news archive goes quiet too, from a merchandise notice on 17 May 2024 until 27 June 2025. Why the five became three again, and who the other two were, is explained by no source at all — first-party or otherwise.
When METALVERSE came back in the summer of 2025, it was not with a show of its own. The group opened BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2025-2026 SUMMER TOUR IN JAPAN, starting at KT Zepp Yokohama on 13 and 14 August and continuing through Nagoya and Osaka. That October it followed the tour abroad for the first time, opening at Zepp Kuala Lumpur on the 6th and at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila on the 8th.
5. Written VΛND, read "band" (March 2026)
On 6 March 2026 the official site announced METALVERSE VΛND PROJECT, MVP for short. The wording was unusually direct: VΛND is written that way and read "band"; alongside the existing members, a dream girls band drawn from new-generation players active in other groups appears on stage, and its line-up changes from show to show. The key visual is two mirrored worlds — three "V" shapes in one, four inverted "Λ" shapes in the other, for three members and four players.
The reveal itself was a surprise. On 30 March, opening for BABYMETAL WORLD TOUR 2026 IN JAPAN at Zepp Haneda, METALVERSE appeared and performed as MVP with no advance notice. That night's four were HAL-CA (guitar, ASTERISM), Li-sa-X (guitar, KOIAI), SERINA (bass, TRiDENT) and NAGISA (drums, TRiDENT).
The rotating premise has been honoured literally since. On 9 May it was HAL-CA, Li-sa-X, Yunika Impact (bass, Kakumei Meloic and KOIAI) and Fuwawa (drums, Kakumei Meloic). At Heavy Kawaii Fes 2026 on 2 August the backing was KOIAI's own instrumentalists — Li-sa-X, Hazuki, Yunika Impact and Kanade Sato — and for VERSE BY VERSE #1 on 25 August the unit was billed as VΛND from KOIAI. Guest bands predate MVP as an idea: ASTERISM had filled that role at FOX_FEST in 2024.
6. "GIZA", and the night the names appeared (May 2026)
At midnight on Friday 8 May 2026, METALVERSE released "GIZA", its first official recording of any kind, as a one-track digital single, and published its first studio-shot music video at the same moment. Amuse's announcement stated plainly that until then the project had issued no official audio at all, and that only live music videos existed on its YouTube channel. The video's credits run to two lines: Takumi Osera as Music Video Director and KOBAMETAL (BABYMETAL WORLD) as Executive Producer. Those two remain the only production credits published for METALVERSE by anybody.
The next evening, Saturday 9 May, the third headline show — METALVERSE #3 - GARDEN OF EDEN — took place at Spotify O-EAST in Shibuya. Tickets had already sold out by mid-April, and on the day a queue formed outside the venue from early morning for the limited CD pressing of "GIZA" (MVPR-1001, 1,000 yen). It was the group's first headline show in two years and three months.
During the opening song, "Welcome to the METALVERSE", the ELEMENT shapes on the screen turned into the members' names. SAKIA, COCONA, MIKO — after nearly three years, the three were finally public. Live reports agree on the shape of the group: MIKO at the centre singing lead, SAKIA and COCONA flanking her in symmetrical dance. (The official site publishes only the names and the position letters C / L / R, and states no parts.) An unreleased new song was premiered as a surprise in the encore, and a fourth headline show, METALVERSE #4 - RE:VERSE, was announced from the stage.
7. 2026 — festivals, a first co-bill, a film, and a first video release
Since "GIZA" the project has moved at a pace that makes the preceding silence look like another act's history. A free members' site, METALVERSE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER, opened on 9 May. On 5 July came the announcement that a new song, "Shoot Shoot Shoot", would be the opening theme of the original animated film GROTESQQQUE, directed by Atsushi Nishigori and produced by CloverWorks, in Japanese cinemas from 6 November. The staff credit in that announcement — the opening theme by METALVERSE (VERSE BY VERSE MUSIC) — is one of the few places the label name is confirmed first-party.
The summer brought three festival weekends in a row. On 2 August the closing day of Heavy Kawaii Fes 2026 at the Meijiza theatre was billed jointly with KOIAI as "-METALVERSE x KOIAI-". On 9 August came LuckyFes'26 on the GARDEN STAGE at Hitachi Seaside Park. On 14 August in Osaka and 16 August in Tokyo, METALVERSE returned to SUMMER SONIC after three years, on the SONIC "METAL" STAGE curated by BABYMETAL. A paid members' site, METALVERSE MEMBERSHIP, opened on 17 August at 550 yen a month.
On 25 August the group played its first co-billed event, VERSE BY VERSE #1 at Zepp Haneda, sharing a stage with MORE STAR of KAWAII LAB. for the first time. A fourth headline show, METALVERSE #4 - RE:VERSE, follows at Spotify O-EAST on 19 September, and day one of BUZZ RHYTHM LIVE 2026 at Yokohama Arena on 6 November.
On Wednesday 4 November the first live video release, GARDEN OF EDEN, arrives. It documents the 9 May show at O-EAST in full, eleven songs. Ten of them exist in no other released recording, and Amuse says as much: that is what the release is for.
8. Members
What the official BIOGRAPHY page publishes is three names and one letter each. No parts, no readings, no dates of birth, no connection to any other act appears in any first-party source. This site does not write past that boundary.

That MIKO sings lead comes from live reports of the 9 May 2026 show (Real Sound, YOUNG GUITAR) and is not an official credit. Japanese Wikipedia and one overseas concert review name the three, but neither cites a source for it, and this site does not adopt those identities.

Two entries are also all the official discography page carries: there is no album, no EP and no compilation. An artist-scoped lookup on Apple Music, the release groups on MusicBrainz and the Spotify artist page all return the same answer. Songs the group has played live for years — "Welcome to the METALVERSE", "Si Si", "Get Down", "Qn", "OMIKUJI", "Endless World", "KIRA☆" — exist nowhere on record except, from November, on the Blu-ray.
10. Summary
METALVERSE arrived unannounced at a BABYMETAL concert in 2023, made its debut in front of some twenty thousand people with no released songs and no published names, and spent nearly three years anonymous. There was a night when it was five rather than three, fourteen months when it was nothing at all, and a band, MVP, whose members change with every show — and all of it sits inside the definition the project began with, that there are as many stories as there are fragments. In May 2026 a first single and a third headline show finally attached names and a discography to the vessel. GARDEN OF EDEN, out in November, is the only record of the three years before that.
Trivia
METALVERSE first appeared in front of an audience on somebody else's stage. Three unidentified lifeforms simply turned up partway through BABYMETAL RETURNS -THE OTHER ONE-, the comeback shows BABYMETAL played in January 2023, and a live report in THE FIRST TIMES describes them as reading like a mirror image of the headliners. The same three showed up again that April at BABYMETAL BEGINS -THE OTHER ONE-. No name and no music had been attached to any of it, so what the audience made of it was left to the audience.
The three names became public more than two years after the first appearance, in the middle of the opening number of the third headline show — METALVERSE #3 - GARDEN OF EDEN, at Spotify O-EAST on 9 May 2026. A live report in Gekirock describes the moment: partway through Welcome to the METALVERSE the elements on the screen turned into three names, SAKIA, COCONA and MIKO, and the room cheered. As of February 2024 the members had been as thoroughly unnamed as the music had been unreleased.
In August 2026, after both acts played the BABYMETAL-curated SONIC "METAL" STAGE at SUMMER SONIC 2026 in Tokyo, they sat down together for Rolling Stone Japan. Midway through, MOAMETAL asked how the younger group had first come across metal. All three of METALVERSE answered: BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL's own reaction was that it is startling to meet a generation for whom that is the answer. SAKIA said they were still very much learning about metal, and turned the question round — what is metal to BABYMETAL?
The first announcement about METALVERSE went out on 7 July 2023, and it carried two things at once: a first appearance at SUMMER SONIC 2023 in Tokyo, and a first headline event called METALVERSE#1 - UNBOXING. The official wording promised a METALVERSE phenomenon that summer, on a world-line separate from BABYMETAL's. Only buyers of an NFT called METALVERSE ELEMENT could enter the earliest ticket ballot, and the announcement said plainly that buying one guaranteed nothing.
The sentence METALVERSE uses to explain itself has not changed between the first announcement in 2023 and the film tie-in announcement in 2026: there are as many stories as there are fragments of METALVERSE, the fragments are called ELEMENT, and the cast and the content keep changing. The word runs through everything the project sells — merchandise, NFTs, even a ticket type — and on stage the ELEMENTs have appeared not only on screen but as physical objects lowered from above.
GIZA, released to streaming services on 8 May 2026, was the first official recording METALVERSE ever put out. For roughly three years before that the only audio the group had published anywhere was the live music videos on its YouTube channel; there was no studio recording at all. The music video that arrived the same day was also the group's first shot in a studio, and the official announcement describes the song as the heaviest thing in their repertoire — darkness in ordinary chaos, and the thread of light that leads out of it.
Crazy J is the song METALVERSE calls swing metal: a big brass sound borrowed from big-band jazz, with Charleston steps folded into the choreography. It became the group's first live music video on 21 February 2024, on the official YouTube channel. In METALVERSE #2 - THE END OF THE INNOCENCE, the show the footage came from, it appears twice — second in the main set and last in the encore — the only song of the ten to be played more than once. The second live music video, Naked Princess, followed about five weeks later on 29 March.
METALVERSE VΛND PROJECT, launched in March 2026, spells band as VΛND. The idea is that the players standing behind the three members change from show to show, and the official announcement calls it a dream girls band drawn from a new generation of artists. At METALVERSE #3 - GARDEN OF EDEN on 9 May the four were HAL-CA (guitar, of ASTERISM), Li-sa-X (guitar, of KOIAI), Yunika Impact (bass, of Kakumei Meloik and KOIAI) and Fuwawa (drums, of Kakumei Meloik).
