LINER NOTES

ReLoad appeared on 18 November 1997 as Metallica's seventh studio album, drawn from the same run of sessions as Load. Bob Rock co-produced, and the recording ran from 1995 to 1997 at The Plant in Sausalito, California, with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted. It documents the stretch when the band pushed with the thickness of a riff and the drag of a groove rather than with thrash speed. Marianne Faithfull sings on "The Memory Remains", and hurdy-gurdy and violin turn up in "Low Man's Lyric". The album entered the American chart at number one, a third consecutive number-one debut, and "Better Than You" took Best Metal Performance at the 41st Grammy Awards.
This edition, out on 26 June 2026, was remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering with Greg Fidelman overseeing; the label counts it as the seventh in its remastered reissue series. The Japanese pressing is a single SHM-CD, UICY-16475, and a three-CD Remastered Deluxe adding unreleased riffs, demos, rough mixes and live recordings shares its date as UICY-16476/8. The same day brought 180g double vinyl, cassette, digital with a Dolby Atmos spatial mix, and a numbered box set holding fifteen CDs and four DVDs. The running order is the original thirteen songs, unchanged.
