Heroes in Time

Metalite's debut came out on 27 October 2017 on Inner Wound Recordings, a Swedish label. The band had started two years earlier in Stockholm around guitarist Edwin Premberg and vocalist Emma Bensing, and these eleven songs are the first thing they put into the world. By the band's own account, the record introduced their fusion of melody, power and futuristic subject matter. It was produced by the Danish engineer Jacob Hansen — Volbeat, Evergrey, Amaranthe — who has worked on every Metalite album since. Fraser Edwards of Ascension and Jakob Svensson of Wigelius appear as guests. Two songs went out ahead of it. "Afterlife", on 11 September 2017, was the band's first single and the one that got an official music video; "Nightmare" followed on 6 October with a lyric video, and an official audio track for "Purpose of Life" appeared three days before the album. All three are still on Inner Wound Recordings' channel. Emma Bensing played exactly one show with this line-up, the release gig. She became a mother in 2018 and left the band the following year, which makes the debut the only Metalite album her voice is on. Rubicon Music released the Japanese edition on 20 December 2017 as RBNCD-1245, adding a piano version of "In the Middle of the Night" at track twelve as a Japan-only bonus.
