Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is Mercenary's sixth album, a melodic metal work reflecting the band's change by crossing heavy riffs with lyrical singing. In 2009 half the members, including the Sandager brothers, departed, and the band reached a major turning point. René Pedersen became the central vocalist, and, true to its name, it embodies a "metamorphosis." With Pedersen alone handling both clean and death vocals, the band's vocal center shifted greatly. They turned the crisis of losing core members into a fresh start. Powerful songs like "Through the Eyes of the Devil," "Velvet Lies" and "The Black Brigade" line up. While keeping their established direction, more modern, sharp-edged elements were added. Except for the debut, it is also the first album without the Sandager brothers. An ambitious work on which the band explored a new direction under its new lineup. Keeping their established lyricism while taking on a darker, more modern texture, it was the first step in redefining the band. It records the band's tenacity in refusing to stop even in adversity. The beauty of their melodies remains intact.
