ON THE PROWL

On the Prowl, released on 25 February 1991, is the ninth Loudness album and was made to mark ten years since the band's debut. Its construction is unusual: most of it consists of self-covers of early material, with only three new songs. The idea was to re-sing in English the songs from a period when the band had no international release, and Mike Vescera translated and adapted Minoru Niihara's Japanese lyrics himself before singing them. "In The Mirror" and the ballad "Never Again" were given new forms here. This was Vescera's second and final album with the band; he left afterwards for Yngwie Malmsteen's group. The record is what its intention looks like in practice — a decade of work offered to an English-speaking audience.
