Lillian Axe is the debut on which LILLIAN AXE bound sharp guitar phrases and singable melody, leaving shadow even within the flamboyance. While the songs have big choruses, they do not lean on mere cheerfulness. It is a record on which the New Orleans band showed its distinctive presence to the world.
On “Dream of a Lifetime,” “Picture Perfect” and “Misery Loves Company,” the vocal’s pathos and the guitar’s breadth make the songs memorable. Songs like “Inside Out,” “Nobody Knows” and “Laughing In Your Face” breathe an early, fresh appeal too.
