By 2006 Comalies, which had entered the Billboard 200 in August 2004, was the best-selling album in Century Media's history, and Lacuna Coil had toured with Moonspell, P.O.D., Type O Negative and Anthrax. Cristina Scabbia said those years in new territories such as the United States had fed American influences into a sound that stayed European. Waldemar Sorychta again co-produced with the band, and the album was recorded in Germany and Italy in two sessions during 2005; Ronald Prent mixed it and Darcy Proper mastered it at Galaxy Studios in Belgium. Scabbia described the theme as spirituality rather than any one religion, and the title as a meeting of the spiritual "karma" and the modern "code". "Our Truth" was heard first, on the Underworld: Evolution soundtrack in January 2006, and Fort Awesome shot its video through the night in the Hollywood Hills. The closing cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" was Scabbia's idea; she has said Depeche Mode liked it and allowed the band to film a video. It went to American radio in July, and "Closer" followed in October as the third single. Their videos and one for "Within Me" were later gathered on the 2008 DVD Visual Karma (Body, Mind and Soul). Scabbia and Andrea Ferro sang, Marco Biazzi and Cristiano Migliore played guitars, Marco Coti Zelati bass and Cristiano Mozzati drums, and Coti Zelati also arranged the keyboards and strings. Century Media announced the European release for 3 April 2006, and the North American CD reached shops on 4 April. It sold just under 34,000 copies in its first American week to enter the Billboard 200 at number 28, and charted at 17 in Italy, 43 in Germany and 47 in the United Kingdom, where it reached number 2 on the rock and metal chart. American sales passed 200,000 by 2009, and in February 2007 Century Media announced a silver certification in Italy. The band played the Ozzfest main stage that summer, and the tour ended on 1 December 2007 at the Rolling Stone club in Milan.
