Liner Notes

The Path of Totality is an extremely unusual experimental work on which Korn boldly teamed with dubstep/EDM producers, colliding the band’s heavy riffs and the destructive power of electronic sound head-on. With the participation of then-cutting-edge artists led by Skrillex, it attempts an unprecedented fusion of nu-metal and club music. Jonathan Davis’s unstable, earnest singing stands out all the more amid the undulating heavy bass and digital beats. A bold record that drew mixed opinions. From the aggression of the opener “Chaos Lives in Everything” and “Narcissistic Cannibal,” made with Skrillex, to a cut like “Kill Mercy Within,” every song is engaging, while “Get Up!,” also made with Skrillex, and a cut like “Way Too Far” convey the work’s experimentation. In particular, “Narcissistic Cannibal” and “Get Up!” became songs symbolizing this attempt. A record whose great appeal is a vigorous challenging spirit that, rather than merely keeping the former nu-metal style, boldly stepped into the novel texture of the club music of the time. It strongly and strikingly inscribes Korn’s tireless experimental spirit. An unusual, engaging record that powerfully crossed genre boundaries — a record where the band’s challenge shines.
