Liner Notes

The Shadow Theory is the twelfth album, on which Kamelot combined symphonic grandeur and modern guitar hardness, taking inner fear and duality as its theme. It was made with Tommy Karevik (vocals), Thomas Youngblood (guitar), Oliver Palotai (keyboards), Sean Tibbetts (bass) and Casey Grillo (drums). It is also the last album to feature Grillo, who long supported the band. Karevik's transparent high notes do not lose the outline of the melody even over heavy riffs and electronic textures. On "Phantom Divine," "Amnesiac" and "RavenLight," a dark atmosphere and immediate choruses coexist while keeping tension. Taking Carl Jung's concept of the shadow and technology as themes, it deeply depicts psychological shading. The handling of guest vocals also functions to widen the story world, not staying mere color. A record full of characteristically Kamelot drama, updating the romantic metal tradition with modern weight.
