LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the twelfth studio album, released by Epic on 28 March 2008 as 88697 21262 2, ten tracks. The American release date was 1 April, and the Japanese standard edition, EICP-1007, followed on 21 May.
The title carries two meanings. The first half nods to Satriani's own nickname, Satch; musterion is a Greco-Biblical word for a hidden thing, a secret, a mystery. Everything here was written in 2007 except Come On Baby, which dates from a snowstorm during a 1993 holiday at Lake Tahoe and was finished years later at his son ZZ's urging. It is the third song he has dedicated to his wife Rubina, after Rubina on Not of This Earth and Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness on The Extremist.
Revelation was written about the death of Steve Morse's father and is also a tribute of sorts to Morse's playing. I Just Wanna Rock continues the theme of the humanistic side of robots that One Robot's Dream began on the previous album: it is about a robot's experience of a rock concert. The last two tracks, Asik Vaysel and Andalusia, were both inspired by the Turkish folk poet Asik Veysel. Paul Gilbert opened the European leg of the tour. The running order here is the import CD's as printed.
