The Strange Case Of...

This is the second album by the band from Pennsylvania. Atlantic released it on 10 April 2012 and Howard Benson produced, as he had their debut. It reached seven on Top Rock Albums and fifteen on the Billboard 200 on 24,000 copies in its first week, and by June 2022 it had sold a million in the United States and been certified by the RIAA. The first single, "Love Bites (So Do I)", won the Grammy for best hard rock or metal performance, and "Freak Like Me" gave the band their first number one on the Mainstream Rock chart. Lzzy Hale's singing covers more range and pushes harder than on the first record, and she has said this one is both heavier and much closer to how the band sounds on stage. The line-up is Lzzy Hale on vocals, rhythm guitar and piano, Joe Hottinger on lead guitar, Josh Smith on bass and Arejay Hale on drums. Four of these songs had already appeared on the preview EP Hello, It's Mz. Hyde. "Here's to Us" was performed on the American television programme Glee with the words cleaned up, and a 2013 reissue added a different version of it with guests including Slash. The order here is the standard twelve-track pressing; the deluxe edition adds three more.
