Liner Notes
Appetite for Destruction condenses the raw impulse and unusually strong melodic instinct of Guns N' Roses, who emerged from the Los Angeles club scene, into a single debut. Recorded with Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Steven Adler (drums), it was produced by Mike Clink. Punk urgency, blues grit and hard-rock weight lock together without excess.
The uneasy intro of “Welcome to the Jungle,” the languid groove of “Mr. Brownstone,” the crowd-sized lift of “Paradise City” and the unforgettable riff of “Sweet Child o' Mine” turn the heat and danger of the street directly into sound. Slash's guitar sings in both riffs and solos, while Axl exposes hunger and tension. The album eventually reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and became one of the best-selling debut albums ever. It is an explosive starting point that made hard rock feel urgent and unpredictable again.
