Lipservice

Lipservice is a fulfilling work of the mature Gotthard, centered on thick guitar riffs, trim, sure rhythm and Steve Lee’s rich, expressive voice. Even in hard songs, the melody is always clear and the choruses have an extremely natural open feel. A record on which the band’s steady playing and deep songcraft are displayed throughout. From the powerful drive of the opener “All We Are” and the drama of “Dream On” to the classic ballad “Lift U Up,” which became a signature song, every song boasts high polish, while the momentum of “I’m Alive” and a cut like “Cupid’s Arrow” convey the work’s fullness. A blues sense, pop accessibility and the large scale of arena rock coexist unforced and naturally. Its great appeal is a construction that lets you listen carefully on powerful playing and sure melody, rather than running into flashy technique. In particular, the moving melody of “Lift U Up” is still highly praised as one of the band’s signature songs.
