Liner Notes
Foreigner is the debut album, which brought Mick Jones's hard guitar riffs and Lou Gramm's strong, soulful voice together into highly immediate songs. The band was formed in 1976 in New York, centered on Mick Jones (English), Ian McDonald (English) of King Crimson, and the American-born Lou Gramm. The Anglo-American makeup is itself the origin of the band name "Foreigner." Al Greenwood (keyboards), Ed Gagliardi (bass) and Dennis Elliott (drums) completed the lineup.
The run of "Feels Like the First Time," "Cold as Ice" and "Long, Long Way from Home" plainly shows the band's completeness. While keeping the weight of rock, the melody and choruses are utterly clear, and the songs leave a strong impression in a short time. The album became a huge hit, reaching 5× Platinum in the US. A record on which the hard-edged ensemble made by English and American members presented a new standard for arena rock.
