Liner Notes
AfterLife is Five Finger Death Punch's heavy, linear ninth album, combining aggression with catchy singing. Under the new lineup established on the previous F8, and with Kevin Churko again producing, it sharpens low-end riffs and melodic choruses. It reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and, on Top Hard Rock Albums, took the band's seventh No. 1 — setting the record for the most No. 1s in that category. It went to No. 1 in Finland and Switzerland, and Zoltan Bathory has called it his favorite record to make.
The lead single "AfterLife," charged with urgency and power around the motif of the afterlife, topped the Mainstream Rock chart as a signature song. From the sardonic "Welcome to the Circus" and the emotional "Times Like These" to "IOU," single-caliber songs that all performed well on the charts line up. High-impact numbers like "Roll Dem Bones" and "Gold Gutter" remain alive, and Ivan Moody's alternation of singing and screams drives the whole record. Concentrating the band's signature traits while showing the stability of a matured act, it is a solid album.
