LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Soul of a New Machine came out on 25 August 1992 on Roadrunner, with the Japanese edition following on 16 December as APCY-8110. It was recorded that May at Grand Master in Hollywood, produced and mixed by Colin Richardson and engineered by Steve Harris.
Burton C. Bell sings and handles the programming, Dino Cazares plays guitar and bass and arranged the music, and Raymond Herrera plays drums. Andrew Shives is credited on bass, although Cazares has since said that he played all of the bass parts himself.
The shape the band became known for is already here: the speed and the roar of death metal set against industrial repetition and a clean singing voice. Seventeen songs, 55 minutes and 14 seconds.
An EP of remixes drawn from this record, Fear Is the Mind Killer, followed in 1993, and on 5 October 2004 the two were remastered and reissued together in a digipak. The running order here is that of the first Roadrunner pressing, RR 9160-2.
