Liner Notes
III Sides to Every Story is the third album, into which Extreme poured their fullest ambition as a three-part concept. Under the theme that there are three sides to everything — yours, mine and the truth — the album divides into the sections “Yours,” “Mine” and “The Truth.” “Yours” is hard rock showcasing Nuno’s technique, “Mine” leans to pop and introspection, and “The Truth” opens into a grand progressive suite recorded with a 70-piece orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
“Rest in Peace” reached number one on the US Mainstream Rock chart, but without a huge hit single like Pornograffitti’s, it underperformed commercially. Even so it reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 and went gold. It is also the last album with the original lineup, including Paul Geary. Beatles-evoking quotations are scattered throughout, and it contains the three-part epic “Everything Under the Sun.” Ambition fills its melody, playing and structure alike — one of the band’s grandest records.
