Bad Bones is Erik Grönwall’s first original solo album in sixteen years, but it does not behave like a nostalgic return. It gathers the experience of H.E.A.T, Skid Row, illness, recovery and independent creation into a direct modern hard-rock record. “Born to Break” establishes the central idea immediately: the high notes are not displayed as technique alone, but as proof of a singer determined to keep moving. The title track balances a heavy riff with a chorus built for a large room, while “Who’s the Winner” introduces strings and a darker 1970s atmosphere.
“Praying for a Miracle” and “Lost for Life” carry the uncertainty of survival without reducing it to easy inspiration. “Twisted Lullaby” and “Save Me” place emotional damage beneath polished melodic hooks, before “Hell & Back” and “How High” restore the album’s live momentum. The closing “Written in the Scars” provides the clearest resolution: the past is not erased, but converted into the voice heard now. The production respects classic hard-rock architecture while keeping the songs compact, forceful and contemporary. Rather than presenting recovery as a simple triumph, Bad Bones contains fear, defiance, humor and the physical pleasure of singing. It therefore feels less like a career summary than the opening chapter of a newly self-directed era.
