LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Mandrake is a work on which EDGUY sounded their lively melody and driving rhythm on a larger scale. Tobias Sammet’s singing combines strength and mischief, giving the songs accessibility. Welcoming a new rhythm section, it is a record on which the band’s sound gained more stability and weight. On “Tears of a Mandrake,” “All the Clowns” and “Painting on the Wall,” even the longer songs never stop developing, with drive toward the chorus. Songs like “Golden Dawn” and “The Pharaoh” breathe the band’s full playing too. Heavy yet leaving a bright feel, this record, on which the band’s momentum shows well, is a full work that was both the culmination of the early period and the starting point of a new leap. In particular, “Painting on the Wall” became a signature crowd favorite.
