Death by Sexy

After a rumour that it would appear in the summer of 2005, it came out in the United States on 11 April 2006 and in Europe on 3 July. Every song is written by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Hughes sings and plays guitar; Homme plays drums, sings backing vocals, plays keyboards and covers the bass on everything except "Eagles Goth", "Don't Speak" and "I Got a Feelin". Joey Castillo of Queens of the Stone Age drums on "I Want You So Hard". The sleeve carries elements of the covers of the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers of 1971, Motley Crue's Too Fast for Love and Loverboy's Get Lucky, both from 1981. "Don't Speak (I Came to Make a Bang!)" was used in a 2008 Nike commercial directed by Guy Ritchie, featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo among others, and turns up in the game Need for Speed: Carbon; "Chase the Devil" appears in Tony Hawk's Project 8. Like its predecessor it was mostly well received, scoring 72 out of 100 on Metacritic. Uncut and AllMusic both gave it four stars out of five, the latter calling it "thoroughly trashy fun". Rolling Stone agreed that at its high points "the sexy propulsion could light up a bar, or a strip club", while granting that the debut was "slightly hookier". The Guardian was not convinced, giving two stars and likening the band "to how Electric Six would sound if they were drinking tepid water instead of vodka". The running order here is the original American release's as printed.
