Liner Notes
Terria is a solo record on which Devin Townsend, while using heavy guitar, places air, quiet and spaciousness at the center of the music. Loud scenes and delicate space connect naturally, and even in long songs the flow of emotion stays unbroken. A calm expression that gazes at nature and the inner self comes to the fore.
From the spaciousness of the opener “Olives” and the grandeur of “Mountain” to the drive of “Earth Day” and the lyricism of “Deep Peace” and “Canada,” the songs move between roar and silence like great waves, while cuts such as “The Fluke” and “Nobody’s Here” give the album a distinctive afterglow. A vast, introspective soundscape recalling the Canadian land covers the whole. Unlike earlier works with their strong impression of chaos and humor, a stance of quietly gazing at landscape and emotion stands out here. Its appeal is that, while heavy, it ultimately leaves a wide sense of release. It is an introspective, fulfilling solo record on which Devin Townsend’s ambient side comes to its most beautiful fruition.
