Epicloud

Epicloud is a record on which the Devin Townsend Project unifies huge choruses, thick guitar, electronic textures and surprisingly approachable melody. The density of sound is high, yet a clear vocal and a straightforward positivity are always at the center of the songs — a euphoric record that even takes in gospel-like choir. From the lift out of the opener “Effervescent!” and the grandeur of “True North” to the catchiness of “Lucky Animals” and the moving expanse of “Kingdom” and “Grace,” every song unites large scale with clear hooks. Heavy scenes and soft scenes swap like great waves, giving the whole a distinctive sense of scale.
