Ohms is the ninth Deftones album, released on 25 September 2020 through Reprise Records and styled as _Ohms on the physical editions.
The biggest change is behind the desk. Terry Date produced it, his first finished Deftones record since their self-titled album of 2003 with only the unreleased Eros sessions of 2008 in between, and the dry texture of the early records returns with him. It was recorded at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles and Trainwreck Studios in Seattle. It is also the first Deftones album on which Stephen Carpenter plays a nine-string guitar, and the last to feature bassist Sergio Vega, who left the band in early 2021.
"Ohms" and "Genesis" went out as singles ahead of the album and "Ceremony" followed later. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards "Ohms" was nominated for Best Rock Performance and "Genesis" for Best Metal Performance. Frank Maddocks, who has designed every Deftones cover since White Pony, made the artwork; there are 12,995 dots in it. The running order here is the ten tracks of the European CD, 093624892137.
