The CD Collection: Volume One opens a four-box series meant to hold everything DEF LEPPARD have recorded, and it gathers their 1980s on seven discs. It came out worldwide on 1 June 2018, timed, the band said, for that summer's co-headline tour with Journey. The four albums On Through the Night (1980), High 'n' Dry (1981), Pyromania (1983) and Hysteria (1987) are joined by Live at the L.A. Forum 1983, first issued as the bonus disc of Pyromania's 2009 deluxe edition, by Rarities, Volume One, ten tracks chosen by Joe Elliott, and by the band's self-released 1979 debut, The Def Leppard E.P., on a three-inch CD: seventy-one tracks in all.
Ronan McHugh, the band's longtime producer and engineer, mastered the albums, and each comes in a card sleeve reproducing its original packaging. The rigid box holds a 40-page hardback book with Ross Halfin's photographs, notes by Classic Rock's Paul Elliott and introductions from Joe Elliott, Rick Savage, Rick Allen and Phil Collen. This Japanese edition, UICY-78594, is the import box with Japanese inserts and strictly limited: discs one to six are SHM-CDs, a format used in Japan only, and it adds notes by Masa Ito, a translation of the English liner notes and the lyrics in translation.
