The CD Collection: Volume 4 is the fourth instalment of Def Leppard's series gathering everything the band has recorded, a six-CD box of the studio recordings from 2015 to 2023. The earlier volumes, the 1980s in 2018, the 1990s in 2019 and the 2000s in 2021, were each announced as part of four; this one speaks of six.
Discs one to three are Def Leppard (2015), Diamond Star Halos (2022) and Drastic Symphonies (2023), the record made with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, each in its original packaging; they reached number 11, 5 and 4 on the UK albums chart. Ronan McHugh mastered all of the albums at Ro's Garage.
Discs four to six hold forty-one rarities chosen by Joe Elliott: live sessions recorded for iTunes, live tracks from Abbey Road in 2008, the three studio songs included on the live album Mirror Ball, the 2012-13 re-recordings of "Rock Of Ages", "(Pour Some) Sugar On Me" and "Hysteria", demos, radio edits, alternate mixes from Diamond Star Halos, and covers and guest appearances such as the 2024 single "Just Like 73" with Tom Morello and "Bad Motor Scooter" with Sammy Hagar. Their version of the Beatles' "Revolution", made for a television advert and left unused, went out as a preview on 15 September 2026, and the Japanese label introduces an outtake of "Miss You In A Heartbeat", with Ian Hunter on piano, as a recently discovered unreleased recording. Elliott says some of the bonus material is recent while something else had been in the vaults for more than thirty-three years.
The hardback book carries Ross Halfin's photographs, liner notes by Paul Elliott of Classic Rock and interviews with all five members. An eleven-LP 180g vinyl box shares the release date, and forty of the rarities are also on the digital Volume Four: The Rarities. Universal Music Japan's limited edition, UICY-80784/9, puts every disc on SHM-CD and adds a full translation of the English liner notes and the lyrics with translations; the music is the same as the international set.
