Euphoria is a work on which DEF LEPPARD again foregrounded multilayered choruses, glittering guitar and highly immediate hooks. Even with a densely layered sound image, the songs themselves are concise, holding an openness evoking a live sing-along. After the experiment of the previous album, the band returned to a royal-road sound reminiscent of their golden era.
On “Promises,” “Demolition Man,” “Goodbye” and “Paper Sun,” sweet melody and hard riffs set each other off, pushing the whole album along brightly. Songs like “All Night” and “21st Century Sha La La La Girl” breathe the band’s full melodic sense too. With the band’s pop sense and rock drive joining naturally, it is a full later-period record that delighted longtime fans.
